Trash to Treasure

I'm not mean, I'm environmentally friendly....!!!

I love the idea of recycling or "upcycling" old unwanted items into something new and fantastic, and I try to include at least one "previously loved" item on every scrapbook page that I make.

At 12 years old, my younger son Tom was a very complicated little boy with all kinds of stuff going on underneath the surface, which I've tried to reflect in this layout. There are three recycled items on this page - part of a cereal box and some corrugated card which have been embossed, distressed and sanded to resemble rusty metal; and the key from a tin of ham!

It's not unusual for me to stop and pick up something shiny or interesting which has been dropped on the pavement, and my fascination with "Steam Punk" gives me lots of opportunities to use bits of twisted metal, broken jewellery and mysterious items of hardware scrounged from my husband's shed.
In fact, John has taken to totting on my behalf like a crafty duck to water - he's always coming home with little treasures which he thought might come in handy...
